The Ars Goetia are as old as Hell itself, and its king, Paimon, is the oldest among them. Their order was made to maintain the arcane structure of Hell, largely in reaction and response to the living world. Their guidance was meant to support those that ruled over this domain, assist its hellborn, and maintain order in a world that many call lawless.Vepar is one of many, a vast array of members of the Ars Goetia line, a younger sister of some magnitude to Paimon. Upon her birth, her natural affinity towards water and her physical form's desire to take the shape of things that swim made her a candidate to represent the Goetia in Envy. From a young age, Vepar was trained in the ways of the Goetia: emotionlessness, utmost duty and respect, and unyielding power. When she was given her Grimoire, she was tasked with overseeing the oceans and water on earth and in Hell, and given domain over storms, poisons, and healing.For many centuries, Vepar lived a lonely, quiet life - and, as a consequence, she vowed to make herself useful and powerful. She prefers subtlety ; she rarely makes a show of her magic, and she is always trying to remain a few steps of everyone around her. She has learned to use flattery like a tool, hides her ambition, and empowers those around her to learn and harness their own powers - particularly succubi and sirens.It was Vepar's influence that created sirens, hellborn native to Envy. And it was from Vepar that sirens learned the art of calling to sailors and crashing their ships and drowning them in turbulent seas - on request, of course. Though her sirens, like Vepar herself, would occasionally travel to the human realm to watch the waves and stars, or feed on a lonely, bleeding heart human.Eventually, Vepar's marriage was arranged to Avanum - a noble considered trustworthy to the Goetian court. For a hundred years, they circled each other - attempts at courtship and familiarity quickly failing. Avanum considered his marriage both fortuitous and also embarrassing - a door to power, but rings away from Pride, its true seat. He attempted to assume Vepar's power as his own over many years. - Avanum disappeared a long, long time ago, and Vepar now holds a high seat of privilege and power in Envy.When she's not working to assist Leviathan, Vepar entertains audiences of hellborn, administering small potions and poisons that are within her power to distribute, as well as minor scrying.
